Home Care + Facebook= $$$??? Facebook Marketing That Makes a REAL Impact for Home Care Agencies and Senior Services

To be quite honest it’s been 2 years since I’ve encouraged home care agencies to do some REAL Facebook Marketing. Today most fbplushomecaremoneyhome care agencies are passively using Facebook- posting their events (maybe), posting pictures (maybe), and hoping or not caring if anyone ever finds their page because frankly:

No one in the senior care space REALLY knows if it’s worth the time or money to really concentrate on Facebook.

Also while we are being honest, we might as well add to the list of “why we don’t take Facebook seriously right now” the following:

• No time. Period.

• No one in the office has the patience or skill to really know what works to engage an audience on Facebook.

• Employees think that if they “like” the company FB page the “boss” can see their personal stuff. (not true).

• Most of us believe that the users of Facebook are not in our home care / senior care marketing demographic. (adult children of aging parents, seniors, boomers, etc) We think it’s for the 20-somethings.

• We don’t know it but we set up our Facebook page up incorrectly (as a personal account instead of a page) and have no chance of ever having it found correctly in an internet search. (Not to mention this violates the FB TOS).

Having set up hundreds of Facebook accounts and pages over the last few years, and studying this dilemma that all senior care marketers face, we have come to some very specific conclusions.

1. It is now VERY MUCH a necessity to have a well-managed, well planned Facebook strategy.

2. Facebook engagement is mandatory.

Why?

• The audience is now full of people in your local area who are caring for aging loved ones, or who ARE aging themselves.

• Grandparents are using Facebook to look at grandchildren’s photos.

• Families are communicating with each other and their local communities more and more on Facebook.

• Facebook has so much demographic data on humans all over the world that it is possible to specifically target ads to the exact location, age, and interests of the people you are trying to reach.

Does Facebook Generate Home Care Leads?

Sometimes. Facebook marketing and engagement may result in leads over time, if done correctly and without fail.

However, Facebook Marketing and Engagement is more about connecting with your local community as a resource for all things elder care. Sharing important community elder care information. Sharing your involvement in the community. Reaching out.

If you really want quality leads for your senior care business, you have to do the work. There’s no way around it. Facebook is part of the work.

Facebook’s proposition is especially attractive to home care agency owners, and not just because it enables them to hone in on potential customers through highly targeted, paid advertisements. Facebook also allows them to grow their business in a way that is familiar to many of them — through word-of-mouth marketing.

Ask home care agencies how they get customers, and they’ll tell you that someone uses their service, has a great experience, and tells a couple of their friends. Now, that word-of-mouth marketing model is happening online, and Facebook is enabling to happen that at scale. Now home care agencies aren’t just reaching a few customers’ friends, but all of their friends, mimicking these long-term behaviors in a way that home care agencies can actually control.

Conclusion:

Should Home Care Agencies Spend Time, Money, and Effort on a REAL Facebook Marketing Strategy?

Short Answer=Yes.

Long Answer= Don’t go it alone. We’ve tested and tested markets all across the U.S. specific to Facebook advertising and results over the last few months (and have been participating with Facebook for years on behalf of hundreds of clients).

There is a formula that works to do the following:

1. Highlight your home care agency or senior service as a local community resource.

2. Highlight your home care agency staff as experts in elder care issues.

3. Create an engaging, fun, educational Facebook page that people in your local community enjoy and comment on.

4. Create a presence that increases your email list, and your Facebook “Fan” list in your local area. You can reach out to them at any time!
